I have worked all my life, and will probably have to work the rest of my life. In retirement I hope to be able to sell everything to buy a 50 ft sailboat, go across the Columbia river bar and “TURN LEFT“. Hopefully would continue to do consulting work to support my wife and I as we travel abroad.
Here I hope to document in detail all the things I have done. I did not include consulting activities just mainly my work history for companies.
Micropump; Sept 2007-March 2011
Mechanical engineer II: Designing, validating, bringing to market gear pumps for automotive emission solutions. Use of Solidworks, SAP, and other tools to develop products under TS16949 certification. Using Solidworks and GDT worked closely with manufacturing & production for proper product development. Work closely with management, quality, vendors, and the customer.
Noah Precision; 2006-2007
Manufacturing Engineer: Supported activities in mfg and production of peltier based chillers for the semiconductor industry. This included problem solving of floor issues, testing & validations of products. Became familiar with plant systems to support maintenance and upgrade initiatives on the floor. Used Solidworks to develop new products for customer requests and new emerging technologies.
Hewlett Packard; 1996-2005
Program Manager: Working for the Boise site I managed the development of print tracking software used to bill departments on work-group printer use. Worked with software developers from Laser-jets, program managers, project managers, and vendors to develop a packaged qualified solution for enterprise sales teams.
Software Development Engineer: After SJS training I was integrated into the consumer inkjet software engineering department. Worked on developing a SDK for use in emerging appliances. Collaborated with software developers working on products like settop boxes, cell phones, gaming platforms, and other consumer electronics. Supported marketing at many different trade shows including CEBIT, CES, COMDEX, E3, SPRINT, MSDN, and cable events. Developed a 3rd party printing application from the SDK for the Nokia communicator cell phone product.
Manufacturing Engineer: My first position at HP developing Manufacturing equipment for the placement of a complex connector on PCB’s.
NACCO Materials Handling Group; 1994-1996
Product Development Engineer: Trained into CADDs5 3D modeling environment I was tasked with designed sub systems of the 36 lb new forklift platform. This included the wheels, hubs, steer axle, cab stairs and running boards, and the engine cover. Alto performed standard test procedures and used analysis methods to redesign longer life bearings.
Tutor Consultant; 1991-1994
Statics, dynamics, & strengths of materials. Mathematics including calculus & differential equations. Also covering calculus based physics, and chemistry.
Landscape Consultant; 1991-1994
Performed landscaping and grounds-keeping services for clients in the Corvallis area.
Red Hat Construction; 1990-1991
Performed general construction tasks as directed by foreman’s. One summer worked on building all the tables for the Mt. Hood Railroad car. Several roofing projects including hot roof, composite, and cedar shake.
Commercial Fishing; 1989-1990
Worked on several vessels in different fisheries. Long lining for black-cod up in Alaska on the arrow. See my marine resume.
Crabbed off the PNW coast on the western skies. Fished for salmon on the the dream. Dragging on the Christie R. for bottom fish.
Matt Sander Landscaping; 1988-1989
Installed irrigation systems, water fountains, decks & fences. Helped with landscape installations and renovations. Performed yard cleanups.
Island Sailing Club; 1987-1988
Performed maintenance on boats. Took reservations and issued boats and equipment to members. Became ASA certified instructor to teach sailing lessons.
Council Crest Texaco; 1985-1986
Pump gas, perform tire changes, brake jobs, oil changes, and other various maintenance task on customer vehicles.
